Read moreRemy Cointreau continues to be one of the very few family-owned groups within the alcohol industry. While their origins date back to 1724, the current company is the result of the 1990 merger of holding companies owned by the Hériard Dubreuil and Cointreau families, who controlled E. Rémy Martin & Cie SA and Cointreau & Cie SA, respectively.
While Remy Cointreau have a number of different alcohol brands, we’re only interested in their whisky brands, which currently consists of Bruichladdich and Westland.
Rémy Cointreau acquired the Bruichladdich Distillery Company (Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, Octomore, The Botanist) in 2012 in a transaction worth £58 million. £48 million was for the acquisition of the entire share capital, and they took on an estimated £10 million of debt.
Then they bought the Westland Distillery (USA) in 2017 for an undisclosed sum.
