Uile-bheist Brew Pub With Whisky Stills Opens In Inverness
Victoria Erasmus and husband Jon, open the nice shiny new Uile-bheist Brew Pub in Inverness, with a couple of whisky stills to make it all sound a bit more interesting. This story has been covered in a few online portals, all with slight contradictions, so we’re not really sure what the truth is. No accusations of any of this being fishy – it’s more likely to be sloppy journalism from websites such as The Spirits Business.
Uile-bheist Brew Pub follows on from this rather churlish modern trend to name anything to do with whisky using some bizarre ancient language gibberish because someone once decided it was cool to do that. Well they are probably long since dead, so we wish this stupid trend would hurry up and die too. Apparently Uile-bheist is something to do with monsters. Yawn. Hence all the scribbled imagery on their website showing off beasties and dragons.
It’s claimed that eventually they will be filling 600 casks a year, while cranking out 350,000 litres of craft beer. Ergo, we’ve done the maths. Even as hogsheads (250 litres) it’s more of a brewery than a distillery. But brew pubs don’t grab headlines since the days when Firkin pubs were cool. That was a quarter of a century ago. Now it’s only whisky and celebrity booze brands that get coverage.
100 visitors a day are expected in peak season – about 3 weeks of the year due to the weather in Scotland. Even at 100 people a day, that’s 36,400 people to chug through 350,000 litres of beer. 9.61 litres of beer per person is pretty ambitious from our view point. Unless of course people can carry it home in clear plastic bags – no sign of a bottling or canning machine at their brewpub. Maybe this will help – Branded Buckets. Yes, we know, it’s an amazing idea. No royalties needed. Alwayus happy to help.
